As Japan ’s most famous saxophone player, Sadao Watanabe has been one of the major influences on jazz in his country. A revered cultural figure, Watanabe’s discography includes dozens of albums, many of which popularized jazz styles like bossa nova and fusion in Japan .

Watanabe embodies what it means to be a musical marvel. Best known for his soulful melodies on the alto sax, his instrumental range also includes the flute and soprano sax. His impressive list of accomplishments is not to be looked at modestly. One of his first hit albums Jazz&Bossa, ignited Japan ’s bossa nova craze in the 60s. He has also recorded with such jazz greats as Chick Corea and the Galaxy All-Stars.

His latest release, Basie’s at Night, was named one of the Top 10 Jazz Releases of 2008 by Amazon.com.
